Meet Diarm

Diarm Scahill is a London-based singing teacher, vocal coach, and Vocologist (SVI-trained). His work sits at the intersection of voice science, performance and practical vocal training, with a particular interest in helping singers develop efficient, adaptable and sustainable voices for the demands of elite professional singing.
Before specialising in voice, Diarm trained as a scientist, graduating with First Class Honours in Mathematical Science. He later retrained as a performer, completing a degree in Musical Theatre at ArtsEd London before working professionally as a musical theatre performer for a number of years. His experience on both sides of the studio gives him a detailed understanding of the technical, physical and psychological demands placed on singers in training and in the profession.
Diarm subsequently completed postgraduate studies in Voice Pedagogy and has undertaken extensive specialist training in contemporary voice science and pedagogy. Some of his training includes Somatic Voicework™ Levels I–III (Ohio), the Gonsalves Method, The Accent Method, the Acoustic Vocal Pedagogy Workshop (Florida), and specialist study in vocology through the Summer Vocology Institute at the University of Utah. He is a Vocologist (SVI-trained), a member of PAVA (The Pan American Vocology Association) and is mentored by some of the world's leaders in voice rehabilitation.
His teaching draws on anatomy, acoustics, aerodynamics, motor learning and exercise physiology, while remaining firmly grounded in what singers actually need to do in the rehearsal room, recording studio, audition room and on stage. Rather than teaching a single vocal method, Diarm works with the individual singer in front of him, considering their learning needs, coordination, performance demands and wider physical function.
He currently works with singers across the West End, UK touring productions, musical theatre training and the commercial music industry, as well as singers returning to performance following vocal difficulty or injury. Alongside his private practice, he teaches singing at ArtsEd London.
His wider interests include vocal health, human physiology, the interaction between the voice and the rest of the body, and translating emerging voice research into information that is genuinely useful to singers and teachers
